A follicular cyst is the most common functional ovarian cyst: the follicle that holds the maturing egg does not rupture at ovulation and keeps filling with fluid. It often causes no symptoms and resolves on its own over a few cycles, but it can bring a sense of heaviness, one-sided pain or an irregular cycle.
